Sunset Valley 2020

Inspired by Naga's improved Sunset Valley, Jaga Telesin and MrsFlynn have released Sunset Valley 2020 and a post directing you to download links can be found below. This uses fixes from EllaCharmed's Sunset Valley map and works to improve performance and reduce the amount of stuck Sims. You'll find many of the lot types already installed (Consignment, Salon, Junkyard etc), Parks upgraded for Generations, and Equestrian Center and Horse Ranch and even Dive Spots from Isla Paradiso.

There are both Vanilla and Chocolate versions to download. You can Learn More Here. Vanilla features a number of new Sims populating the world, while Chocolate includes more Supernaturals and some upgraded lots. The more packs you own the less will be replaced as this was built for players who own many packs. See full credits/contributors and get a full features rundown in the link above.

Dragon Valley Guide

The Sims 3 Dragon Valley WorldRicalynn has written a Guide to the Sims 3 Dragon Valley World. It is fully featured and covers places in the town itself, Baby Dragons that are included with the World, a list of residents, and collectibles maps that will help you find all the rare things you need like Palladium, Pink Diamonds, and Alley Catfish to catch Angel Fish and reel in those Death Fish after midnight. This is the first in a series, with the next coverage featuring Aurora Skies. Rica has accepted to cover all the Worlds in this style, and that has me enthused about the quality of information I will happily host here. It appears we'll have the most comprehensive information on worlds all in one place here, but it'll take some time.

About Carl's Sims 3 Site

The Sims 3 Base GameBorn July 16, 2009, this Strategy Guide seeks to help Simmers from all over the world with detailed and informative articles, hints, and tips for The Sims 3 and its expansions. We largely favor a powergamer mindset, and shoot for making the most money, finding how it works, or doing things better and more efficiently. You'll find step-by-step instructions, and screenshots to help you accomplish things in the Sims 3. Collectively, we've written over 200 pages of content for the game. If you'd like to see a listing of every article we offer, have a look at our Sitemap. There you'll find a full list of articles, along with a search tool that will help you to track down the info you need.

We have a staff of 3, with Pam Marsden and Tom Schlueter helping Carl with guide writing and the forum. If you explore the guide you'll see we've had lots of help from our growing forum community. We have numerous volunteer moderators. To learn a little about our staff, visit the Staff section of our Sims 3 Forum. Many of our moderators have supplied walkthroughs or in-depth articles for the Guide.

If you don't yet have an account, sign up at our forum to provide tips and tricks, suggestions, and corrections to the guide. You'll be helping me to improve something that has helped over 100,000 Simmers from around the world. The Sims 3 is far more complex than meets the eye, and without readers like you this guide wouldn't be nearly as accurate and helpful as it is today.

Players are able to contribute information through the comments system. This allows the site to function somewhat as a Wiki, for players can enter additional information and discuss game mechanics to help other Simmers. Questions about the game and specific features can be asked on those pages, although I (Carl) cannot answer them all. Do not expect answers to be swift unless you use our Forum. Many bits of helpful information can be found using the site's search function, which goes through about 20,000 pages of content to help you find an answer to your questions.

You can't get Bonehilda in the Late Night Expansion Pack, you can get her in Supernatural.

To get Bondehilda, click on alarms under kitchen and Bonehilda's Coffin is there. When you buy it, click on "Awaken Bonehilda". If something needs to be cleaned, she will come out of the coffin and clean up your Sim's house. When her job is done, she will go to bed, back in the coffin and come back out when something needs cleaning.

I really like Bonehilda, she made my pet dog learn tricks (all of them)!!!!!

It's great and generous of you to set these sites up! I'm a little concerned, though. I *just* bought Sims 3 a week or so ago(on sale, most likely b/c the is imminent with the new version coming out!)
I found this site and IMO it is the bestSims3 guide that I have found!
Will you be able to keep this particular Sims 3 site up and as-is?
I've been relying on your site to help coach me through Sims 3 - and your site is notable due to the huge wealth of information, filled to the brim of info regarding both depth and breadth.
I'd hate to see it go while I'm still a newbie.!
I'm sure there are plenty of other people who will stick to Sims 3 for a while, and it would be a shame if all this good info was to disappear! Please let me know your thoughts on this - should I be frantically trying to accumulate/index this content, if you are planning to delete?
Thanks,
Allie

It's not 2014 anymore, I still LOVE this site, and I don't want it to go anywhere! Pleeze?? The game's not gonna disappear, I'm one of this game's 'oldest wierdos', maybe not in terms of age but I played it when it was still in testing, and I'm stil playing it!

Hello everyone! :)
I was playing The Sims 3 and I literally just found this out on complete accident! Its a quick way to make friends....

CTRL+SHIFT+C
Type in the usual: testingcheatsenabled true
Then go to your relationship tab
Pick the sim you want a better relationship with and click anywhere in the green bar under the sim's picture
This will set the relationship as wherever you clicked

Its kind of hard to explain, but if you have the game then you should go try it out and if you have any questions then feel free to ask! :D And dont forget to pass it on so other simmers can learn this too!

When do you think Sims 5 will come out and how long will you take to complete it? Also, how long have you been playing sims 3 and do you think you know everything about it?
3rd June 2014 6:04am
Carl says...
Sims 5 would not be until 2019 or 2020 based on previous release timetables.

It will take me about a year to write the Sims 4 Guide, then cover Expansions as they come. It is unlikely I'll be done with the base game by the time the first Expansion is out.

I do not know everything about the game - players utilize all kinds of different combinations from the Expansions and come up with interesting ways to use the game's mechanics. I focus on each EP as it comes, so am sometimes surprised at the tricks they discover and share with us. I've been playing off and on since release, but my play time has been cut off the past year since I've been working on Civilization 5. After nearly five years on one game, I'm definitely ready for a new one :)

do you try to read every comment? or just the first few? I love reading your guides!

At the time of you posting your question Carl did try to read every comment. Now his guides are just too large so this is now my job. If anyone directly posts to Carl I will still answer but notify Carl of the comment. This way he gets to focus on new content and yet still gets to see what people are saying.

I don't know if this is the right place to be saying this (please move my comment to the correct place if it's wrong!) but has anyone encountered an error when loading the Sims 3 game? Once you've selected/made a new world on the main screen of the Sims 3 an error called Error Code 16. It usually occurs when I let my computer go to sleep throughout the night (especially if Origin is still running, because most of the time I don't close it down once I've finished playing the Sims 3). The green loading bar, when loading the world, jumps to full completely and a the screen goes black and a blue message box pops up. It says "Error: Error code 16. It is recommended you restart the application." It happen agan when I try a second time. The only way to fix it is to close down Origin and the Sims 3, and shut everything down. I'm curious, has anyone else experienced this problem?
Regards,
Katherine

Not the same error, but I also had problems with the game on startup. My suggestion is that you reinstall Origin, (and the Sims 3 if the problem persists), though in my experience, Origin takes so long to install that it'd be better if you did everything in one go. That's what I did and it fixed my problem. BUT FIRST, do a virus check (because my friend had a problem with the game and it turns out a virus was responsible). Hope this helps!

You can try the MOO cheat to physically move the horse or use NRaas MasterController's "Reset Lot" on the lot. This will also resets all items on the lot to their starting parameters (useful for unsticking broken objects).

The worlds are exclusive of each other but you can place any community venue/lot into any world. If you use mods the nrass traveller mod allows much more flexibility between the worlds as well as fixing bugs.

Do you have mods? Specifically any Story Progression mods. I had the same problem with my werewolf and mermaid couple. I reset the settings of the Progression mod for the entire town and that fixed it. If that's not it, try placing them in another town. Don't MOVE them in-game, they have to come from the Households library, otherwise they'll just bring the settings with them into the new town. Hope this helps!

It must be some sort of glitch. What happened before your Sim mysteriously turned into a ghost? Resetting the Sim with the cheat stops what they're doing, it doesn't resurrect the Sim. Unfortunately, I don't know anything to turn a Sim ghost back to a normal Sim. Sorry :(

Hi! For those of you with sims UVL, the new laptop that comes with it is better than the most expensive laptop! It has the same ratings but the bonus of a +2 environment- and it looks really cool. I don't remember what it's called but it costs only 1800, so I always get it for new sim families.

when is the earliest that you can save a new game on sims3? My daughter spent hours creating a new game and family, but a power failure occurred and when the PC restarted and she launched sim3 again that new game had disappeared.
We cannot find an "auto save" type option in the game settings either?
27th July 2014 3:09am
Amy says...
Hi Toni! Sorry to hear about that - I absolutely hate when it happens. In my experience, you can save as soon as you enter the lot. As far as I know, there is no autosave function in the Sims 3, although I've heard that the Sims 4 will have one.

I've been playing Sims 3 for a while. Can I introduce an expansion pack at my current progress point, or would I have to begin a new game to use the pack?
1st March 2014 3:47am
Playalot says...
You can install a new expansion pack at any point and still continue in the same save.
We have great tips on managing this as well as how to uninstall and then reinstall for a fresh and hopefully relatively bug free game!
