  • FAW Group Corporation (FAW) released the R.Flag SIGHT 531 Technological Development Strategy at its Fifth Science and Technology Conference in Changchun on April 18.

    The “SIGHT”, which represents five major brand genes of Hongqi – Safety-security, Intelligence, Green, Health, and Taste, indicates the brand’s new strategic position in technological innovations of forward-looking insight, future-oriented layout, and steer changes.

    At the conference, FAW also released Hongqi’s three major technological platforms – the “Hongqi Tiangong” electric platform HME, the “Hongqi Honghu” hybrid platform HMP, and the “Hongqi Jiuzhang” intelligent platform HIS.

    Focusing on the five major brand genes, Hongqi will strive to make new breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields, to produce excellent products, and to develop outstanding and competitive brand.

    In term of safety, Hongqi brand is dedicated to develop an ultra-high safe battery features no thermal runaway and energy loss, and high insulation. Currently, the matrix-type and all-around insulated protective technologies have been applied in mass production. 

    In the field of intelligence, the millisecond level control and broadband response Active Suspension 2.0, in-housed developed by Hongqi brand, will make its debut in the Hongqi C801 model this year. The active suspension will help to reduce inertia in the cabin, resulting in a more pleasant driving experience. By 2026, Hongqi brand will launch the Full Active Suspension 3.0, providing users with a comfortable riding experience regardless of road bumps and a smooth handling experience regardless of the curvature of the road.

    Hongqi Next-Generation Electric Drive System can realize a maximum efficiency of 96 percent, and deliver a power density of 3.2kW/kg, which is at the leading level in the industry. In the field of low-carbon manufacturing, the Internet of Things platform aims to develop a digital twin factory that integrates 3D models of production lines and operational status.

    Regarding health function, Hongqi has made breakthroughs in 16 core technologies, including bio-based natural material, multifunctional nanometer ecological ion material, and particle purification. The technology of ecological nano ion leather will also make its debut in Hongqi new H9 model this month, which can achieve zero formaldehyde and significantly remove unpleasant odors in the car.

    As to the taste, the Hongqi brand has carried out in-depth cooperation with the The Palace Museum to integrate the aesthetic charm of the Chinese classical architecture with cutting-edge technology, and perfectly incorporating it into the design of Hongqi products. Moreover, the Hongqi brand is also collaborating with the Dunhuang Academy to carry out project cooperation, and the latest design results will be presented gradually within the year.

    In the next five years, Hongqi brand will spare no effort to make breakthroughs in 983 core technologies in key fields, and develop three major technology platforms – the “Hongqi Tiangong” electric platform HME, the “Hongqi Honghu” hybrid platform HMP, and the “Hongqi Jiuzhang” intelligent platform HIS.

  • FAW Group Corporation and ECARX Holdings Inc., a global mobility technology provider, signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Changchun on April 18.

    According to the agreement, the two sides will fully leverage their respective advantages, carry out comprehensive strategic cooperation in the field of intelligent cockpit, including product design and development related to cockpit domain controller, IoV (Internet of Vehicles) ecosystem operation and maintenance, and other areas. The two sides will join hands to build a competitive Hongqi Intelligent Cockpit and Hongqi OS through the establishement of an integrated full-stack R&D capabilities.

  • FAW Jiefang, the commercial vehicle segment of FAW Group, released its operating results in 2023, and plan for the development of 2024 on Apr 2 in Beijing.

    FAW Jiefang saw an impressive performance in operation in 2023. Its revenue jumped 66.71 percent from a year earlier to 63.905 billion yuan, and the net profit attribute to the parent company soared 107.66 percent year-on-year to 763 million yuan. 

    In total, FAW Jiefang sold 241,700 complete vehicles in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 42.11 percent, the highest rate of growth in the automotive industry and the top of the market share. Furthermore, FAW Jiefang has been number one on following fronts: the sales of tractor retained the top of the industry for 18 consecutive years; the market share of gas-powered heavy-duty trucks took the lead in the automotive industry; the sales of high-end trucks topped the automotive industry. The overseas sales leaped forward to 45,000 units, and the NEV sales rose 164.5 percent to 7,200 units.

    In 2023, FAW Jiefang invested 3.105 billion yuan in research and development, and continued to foster the core competitiveness of self-supporting. FAW Jiefang actively fulfilled its social responsibilities, and donated 12,05 million yuan to support public welfare, setting an example for ESG (environmental, social and governance) practice in commercial vehicle industry.

    To face the fierce competition in the market of 2024, FAW Jiefang will propel in the following four aspects. In terms of traditional vehicles, FAW Jiefang will consolidate advantages and make breakthroughs in disadvantages, so as to increase the market share. In the field of NEVs, FAW Jiefang will tap the potential of sales, especially further increase the sales of new energy light truck. With regard to overseas market, FAW Jiefang will step up efforts to bolster the internationalization, strengthen the fundamental of overseas market. In the aspect of lowering costs and raising income, FAW will increase revenue and reduce expenditures, in order to achieve the annual profit target.
