Dilemma: 1299 Panigale S stock exhaust or 1299 Panigale Akrapovic

I am in al dilemma and don't know what to order.
I really like the looks of the Panigale 1299 S with the special wheels, the black front fender, the LED lights, ... I also like technical items like the electronic suspension, but it is more like a 'nice to have' than a necessity for me. Although I would like it.
But unfortunately, I cannot have it all and before I had a 848 evo with carbon Termignoni end cans. That sound was incredible.
This weekend, I heard the 1299 S with the stock exhaust and to me, it sounded awesome. The dealer also had a 1199 S with Termignoni cans and started that after the 1299. The sound was not that louder, but to me it sounded a bit deeper.
I never actually heard the Akrapovic on the 1299 and would like to know if any of you heard the sound in real life and how it would compare to the sound of the stock exhaust? Is it really worth the steep surplus price, just for the end cans (not the complete system, that would be just too much $$)?
If I would go for the bike with the Akrapovic end cans, I would have to go for the 'regular' 1299 and not the 'S' version, just because of finances.

So what do you guys think? Do the Akrapovic end cans make that much difference?

Thanks a lot.

I would get the s and save a bit more gradually to buy the slip ons later. That is what I did for my 2013S and I ended up getting a smoking good deal on my termi's. It's all about patience! Lol

It depends on your goals. I'd rather have Ohlins and forged wheels than the Akra exhaust.

I'd love to have the forged wheels and the ohlins, but I also love the deep sound that the bike makes with the slip-ons.
So if anyone heard the bike with stock exhaust and Akrapovic slipon and could tell me if it really makes that much of a difference, I would be very grateful.

Biggest difference will be higher in the rpms. Down low, the stock cans sound pretty good for being stock. Higher in the rpms, they start to sound tinny and not that great anymore. The Akrapovic will definitely sound more throaty and it will keep that sound throughout the rpms.

If you're debating about this, you will get it eventually, regardless of your current finances. I would suggest that you get the base bike and do all the upgrades step by step and have a better bike than an S. Modifying the bike is where the fun is anyway....not so much the end result. For me at least.

Hi yes I was wondering about exhaust slip ons as well . I have ordered the base model 1299 and got a carbon fibre front guard to fit it when it arrives . Expecting it in April . Have yet to hear the sound . Akrapovics are sure to be $$$$ , will make the call later on . Trading in my 899 that has had Termignonis fitted at the 1000 k serv

In this case: S

Agreed, screw the sound, the reality Is the suspension upgrades far outweigh noise you can change a later date.

Im glad I got the S, and added the full termi later.

I'm gonna guess this guy ended up with a ZX-10....either that, or he still has no bike because he's 14.

For the benefit of others who might be wondering the same thing....get the damned S. The semi-active Ohlins alone makes it worth it, UNLESS you are a serious and experienced track rider who knows how to dial in a suspension so that the bike as a whole does what you want it to.

For the rest of us idiots, the self-adjusting Ohlins is a godsend.

If you even have to wonder about the cost of the Akra system, it's not for you. $5k pays for convenience with the built-in map. There is no other rationalization for such a bizarrely expensive system that does not make that much more power over stock. There are cheaper options for the budget-minded Panigale owner where personalizing your bike takes months, if not years, going part by part.

And if you don't mind the weight, the stock exhaust is plenty loud and deep. It was louder than the full Arrow system on my Multistrada, exhaust flap active and all. I'd go so far as to say that the 1299 stock exhaust not only is louder than some aftermarket systems, it's the loudest, most sonorous stock exhaust I've ever heard, period.

If I were in your situation and I could afford the S, I'd go for the S and get the exhaust when you can because I'd always be wondering what it would be like to have the S...

I've got one, little under 2500miles on it now and it's the best bike I'd ridden, it just works as a package. I agree that the Akrapovics are expensive but the quality and fit is excellent and the sound is awesome, even with the decibel killers in is plenty loud enough.

I'd only consider changing out the exhaust/air filter/fuel map if it smoothed out the throttle. I don't need more hp, especially top end hp... the bike is mental enough as it is.

I'd email you a chocolate chip cookie if I could. The 1299 is the first vehicle I've ever touched where I'm thinking it does NOT need more power  Akra for looks, tuneboy for smoothing out response

The electronic are cool, I guess but if you are street riding you set them once. I have a 2014 R and I would prefer the non electronic but oh well. I think its gimmicky. Its all what you want and will make you happy.

I have a 1299S and added the slip-on akra later.

The difference in sound and looks is worth it for me - the stock exhaust is good for a stock exhaust but still sounds pretty flaccid at the track, IMO.

Plus the wheels you get with the S are pretty awesome, and the suspension as everyone has already pointed out.

What are your plans for the bike? Race bike? Street only? If you race, do you race in Superstock classes?

Actually, in either case I would get the S.

I am yet to understand why people worry SO much about the exhaust on sportbikes. It is the same on any forum for any bike. People get a new bike and act like the exhaust is on fire and it has to be removed immediately.

The first question is ALWAYS "which exhaust should I get?".

To me, the choice between a better bike, or a lesser bike that is louder, is a no-brainer.

BTW, if you are working in the constraints of a budget, then your best bet would be to get the S model, then have Phil core your stock exhaust.

Then you get a better bike, that sounds the way you want. Problem solved. :)

Go with the S since you get all the good things and the stock system is heavy but adequate until you get the money for exhaust down the road.

I love my Front Exit Termi slip-ons but they are friggen loud. I miss my Leo Vince pipes from my 848. They sounded very good. The Termis do too and the Hog riders have conceded that fact too.
