SLIGHT CHANCE MOUNTAIN THUNDERSTORMS
With the proximity of the Great Basin low pressure system there may be enough instability in the atmosphere to pop off an isolated thunderstorm in the Kern County mountains, as well as up in the high Sierra. We have a 10% chance for measurable rainfall from Tehachapi up through the Kern River Valley- although models also suggest a thunderstorm is possible in the Frazier Park area. I would put the Kern River valley as the most likely spot for a thunderstorm, but Tehachapi area is second. Any instability showers or thunderstorms should end by evening and will likely not return on Saturday. That's due to the low pressure system moving eastward.
THE 90s ARE BACK
Bakersfield's high Thursday was 89. Today we should go back to the low 90s and stay there into next week. The warmer air takes us a good 7-10 above normal. High pressure in the upper part of the atmosphere is to be the cause. The stable and drier air will linger through Wednesday of next week. It peaks on Monday through Wednesday. The Kern County mountain areas return to the low 70s today and will gradually warm to the low 80s by the end of the next seven days. Overnight lows will be in the 50s.
NEXT WEEK
We do not foresee any triple digit weather next week. That is important if you are waiting to input your entry into the Hot Times Contest you can find on our Contest Page. The deadline is this Sunday at 11:59 PM. Good luck!
