Buffalo Bills still looking for a backup quarterback, per report

That headline should surprise exactly zero people.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Following last night's 23-0 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone was asked about his backup quarterback position. This was the exchange between a reporter and the head coach:

Reporter: Given that Jeff Tuel did not play tonight, would it be fair to say you’re comfortable with him being your No. 2 quarterback in Chicago?

Marrone: No. I wouldn’t say that that’s the situation.

"If we can go out and get someone that’s better," Marrone would continue, "I don’t think anyone would be disappointed in us doing that."

It should not surprise anyone, then, that ESPN's Adam Caplan is reporting that the Bills are, in fact, attempting to acquire a new quarterback. Teams are beginning the process of trimming their rosters down to 53 players today, and a few quarterbacks will be on the move as a result.

The Bills find themselves scrambling to bolster their quarterback depth for the second straight August after Thad Lewis was released in favor of Jordan Palmer, who promptly threw three interceptions in his Bills debut last night.
