Sine Tone Generator

Background

Sine (1000 Hz, -3 dBFS)

The most fundamental sound is the sine wave, characterized by a single frequency without any harmonics. A sine wave can be easily recognized by ear, as it sounds very pure, almost like a whistle.

In 1822, French mathematician Joseph Fourier discovered that any waveform could be broken up as a combination of sine waves with different amplitude and frequencies. The discipline of reducing a complex waveform to a combination of sine waves is called Fourier analysis, and is fundamental to audio processing!

As sine waves are made up by a single frequency, they are best suited to test audio systems at a given frequency.

Is AudioCheck free? Not for me. Your support keeps this site running. Any donation will be rewarded with • uncompressed .wav file download for every test (a download arrow will appear next to each sound icon) • increased durations and sample rates up to 192 kHz in the Tone Gen section • and, best of all, the removal of these pesky payment buttons below 😜
